With China’s long history, rich culture, and environmental regions as amazing as the Tibetan Plateau, it is no wonder that there are 56 sites in China listed on the World Heritage List. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization,
“To be included on the World Heritage List, sites must be of outstanding universal value and meet at least one out of ten selection criteria.”
Sichuan has five sites on the World Heritage List. Three of these sites are valued for their natural environment (all in Aba Prefecture), one is a cultural site, and one has mixed value (cultural/natural).
